Mission Statement:
MY MISSION IS TO PROMOTE THE GAMES OF TENNIS & VOLLEYBALL IN OAK RIDGE.
I am honored to be President of the Oak Ridge Tennis Club. I'm Director for the Oak Ridge Youth Volleyball League. My leagues and events give youth and adults a chance to compete with players of similar skill levels and to introduce new players to the game. I have volunteer instructors and parent/coaches that help me implement my tennis and volleyball programs, and I often partner with the The City of Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department to conduct free clinics for novice and experienced players. The Tennis Club is also designated as a Community Tennis Association by the United States Tennis Association (www.usta.com). This relationship allows our Tennis Club to utilize resources provided by the national organization, helping us implement tennis programs more efficiently and effectively.
The Oak Ridge Tennis Club coordinates annual spring and fall tennis leagues for players in the Greater Knoxville area. Email oakridgetennisclub@gmail.com for league applications. The leagues include evening and daytime singles and doubles for junior and adult players. This website describes my role as an instructor, conducting private lessons, group clinics, and coordinating volleyball leagues for elementary and middle school students in Oak Ridge.
The newest team activities are the QuickStart tennis program for elementary age children and United States Youth Volleyball League for children ages 7-15. Both provide exciting play formats for learning tennis and volleyball; both designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to the age and size of the players. Go to www.quickstarttennis.com to find out how this format enables kids to have more enjoyable tennis experiences early on the in the learning process - and having fun is always a factor in keeping kids involved in any activity.
The City of Oak Ridge features seven lighted public hard courts located between Broadway and Tennessee Avenues; the Jackson Square Courts. There are also fourteen courts at the Oak Ridge High School on the Oak Ridge Turnpike. These courts are also lighted and are free for use by the public. Free volleyball clinics are held every February at the Oak Ridge Civic Center, as well as the Tuesday group lessons I conduct year-round for youth. Adult leagues are coordinated by the Recreations & Parks Department every fall and winter. If you'd like to contact the Oak Ridge Tennis Club's Board members, their email addresses are listed below. You can also email the Club at oakridgetennisclub@gmail.com and the Board will ensure your questions and/or comments are addressed and a reply forwarded to you. We hope to see you on the courts!
